With the fall semester underway, your home may already be stressful and hectic. Here are some home organization tips to keep you and your family sane as you transition from summer back to school.

1. Food organization tips

Take the stress out of busy school mornings by categorizing snack and lunch items. Using small bins from a dollar store, make a basket for meats and cheeses, veggies, spreads, etc. Do the same for your pantry, grouping like items together. Make sure you give members of your household a grand tour so that they can immediately begin implementing your new organization system!

2. Entryway organization tips

Your entryway is the first area of your home your kids enter each day after school, so keeping it organized is crucial. Install hooks to hold jackets and backpacks, cubby shelving for lunch bags and projects, and a lidded bench to hold shoes. You could also hang a mail organizer and designate a pocket for each child. Instruct your kiddos to put permission slips and other important forms in their pocket, so that these papers don’t get lost in the shuffle.

3. Bedroom organization tips

Your child’s room is their oasis, a place for them to work but also unwind. Perhaps they would appreciate it if you created separate spaces in their room for relaxing and schoolwork. For example, you could get them a simple desk with some inspirational quotes for their study area, a beanbag chair with a small bookshelf for their “relaxing corner,” and some twinkle lights for their bed. Encourage them to use their desk for studying, their relaxing corner for downtime, and their bed to wind down and sleep.

4. Time organization tips

Between meetings, events, homework/project deadlines, and sports practice, your schedule fills up quickly during the school year, making it difficult to remember and stay on top of everything. Apps like Trello, Evernote, and Google Calendar are helpful tools you can use to keep your family organized throughout the school year.

Getting your home organized for the school year can not only relieve back-to-school stress but can also help you meet deadlines and accomplish your to-do list. What’s your favorite way to stay organized during the school year?
